ACNE LASER TREATMENT
Say goodbye to acne skin and old scarring and hello to fresh blemish free skin.
What is Acne?
Acne results from a change in the way in which keratin is laid down in the hair follicle, with keratin becoming denser and blocking the secretion of the sebum. This produces a sterile inflammatory response which plugs the follicle causing a whitehead. Acne is also caused by the body's increased production of the hormone androgen (produced by both men and women) which stimulates the sebaceous glands
to produce more oil. The increased production of oil caused the pore to become blocked so that the oil cannot come up to the surface of the skin. The Acne is an infection that feeds on and breaks down this oil. As the bacteria multiplies waste products and sebaceous acid are created and irritate the the sebaceous glad , which becomes inflamed causing a blackhead, or spot.
With more severe acne the distended walls of the follicle may break and the contents enter the skin and cause a foreign body response of inflammation - it is this process that can lead to damage of the skin tissue and scarring.
How Acne laser treatment works
The IPL laser light targets the bacteria in the skin, a photo-dynamic reaction occurs and with successive treatments this destroys the bacteria before it has a chance to grow again and prevents further scarring.
The light is absorbed into the blood vessel which supplies the sebaceous glad. By heating up the capillaries this will reduce the blood flow to the sebaceous gland and decrease the over production of the oil in the skin.
One month prior to treatment an exfoliating facial can be helpful.
The treatment schedule
4 treatments to take place every 3 weeks. this routine can be repeated again if necessary.
Maintenance treatments will be needed in the future to maintain the skin.
Before and After Care.
Whilst the following may seem restrictive, during your consultation we will discuss your future holidays and make a treatment plan accordingly.
Before
It is important that you stop the use of sunbeds and natural active sunbathing 30 days prior to treatment commencing. SPF 50 should be used daily on the area if you are in the natural sun, going about your daily activities. Any use of fake tan must be 5 days old before treatment.
After
Generally, no post-treatment care is necessary. It is recommended to use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 60) for a few weeks following treatment.
You may notice that the skin looks a little “dirty” for a few days following treatment but will then look brighter and clearer and will improve with each treatment.
